Man, I have crashed back down to Earth this week. Back off holiday, back to work, back to reality. The honeymoon is well and truly OVER. (By which I mean, our lovely relaxing week in the Cotswolds with a hot tub has ended, not my marriage is falling apart. My wife and I are still very much in love, thank you for your concern). Yes, it is back to work after two weeks’ off. Still, at least it’s quieter than when you finished up right James?

Wrong.

If anything, it is busier, with extra pressure being added due to the fact that we are getting closer and closer to the end of our financial year. Still, at least you can do a little retail therapy, right?

WRONG.

I am extraordinarily skint. Plus, the actual value of money has taken some getting used to. The two weeks before the wedding were quite a wild spending spree with suppliers being paid, etc. We all knew it was coming but it is still galling to actually have to part with the money. Still, why don’t you fo for a run? Outdoors is free after all! And going for a run always cheers you up…

WRONG.

It started raining as soon as I left the house. I just can’t catch a break…

I am, of course, joking. My married life is everything I had expected it to be (which is; as happy, if not happier, than my engaged life) and the warm glow of wedding-love lingers on like the last light on these crisp autumnal evenings we currently enjoy. It is just disappointing to learn that I can’t merrily scoff and quaff what ever I want without consequence. I have basically spent the last 12 days galavanting and, boy, are there consequences! I am, of course, fat.

But still, at least I have a nice easy listening album to review this week?

WRONG.

Man, these guys are angry. Like, seriously angst-y. To an almost comedic degree. I heard someone say once that the Sex Pistols were a ‘commercial’ band, a set up. I think they actually compared them to HearSay which doesn’t seem fair on either party. Unsurprisingly they offered no evidence for their claims and having now listened to the album I find it hard to believe, but stranger things have happened.

I’ll admit, as with a few others, I’ve been slightly dreading this album coming out of the tin. Although I found I didn’t hate it nearly as much as I thought I would, I actually found at times I enjoyed it. I think I’ll be listening to it sparely in future though. I suppose it is a little like my return to work –you need the time on to enjoy the time off.

Or maybe that’s just a load of bollocks.

Thanks for reading — over the course of 2021, I’ll be reviewing 50(ish) of the greatest albums ever recorded. You can see the list here:

There is also a playlist featuring the best song from each album here.
